Award-winning brazilian and international actress and thespian, Daniela Lavender, recently hosted the Opening Night of the 2nd Brazilian Film Festival, London, at the prestigious BFI, London.
Daniela, who was accompanied at the Opening Night ceremony by her husband, Oscar-winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley, inaugurated the Festival amid the company of fellow esteemed guests such as "City of God" director, Fernando Meirelles, and other luminaries and stalwarts from the Brazilian film industry.
In her introductory speech, Daniela said, “in recent years, Brazilian cinema has enjoyed a wonderful, global popularity and it is with great enthusiasm that we come together to celebrate such a significant moment. The exchange promoted by the Inffinito festival circuit allows for a vital communication platform between both countries and we are confident this will be an unforgettable week.We are extremely honoured to launch the event here at the headquarters of Bafta which we hope is the first step in securing a long and rich partnership”.
The Festival, which has become a firm entry on the capital’s cultural calendar following a phenomenal debut in 2009, was opened by a screening of the critically acclaimed "Lula, The Son of Brazil" (Fabio Barreto) to unanimous applause. The screening was followed by an elegant afterparty at which Daniela dazzled in front of media and guests alike.
Of late there has been huge interest in Daniela from international filmmakers. Daniela last year completed a European tour with the British Shakespeare Company’s production of "A Midsummer Nights Dream", for which she received huge critical acclaim.

She has also starred in film projects alongside actors such as Sacha Baron Cohen, Jeremy Irons and Michael Gambon.
Daniela’s personal story is also fascinating. Born in Bahia, Brazil, the daughter of a professor of English, she studied journalism at PUC University and Drama at Dirceu de Mattos College in Rio and started acting when she was just 8. She went on to train at drama school in London and studied Flamenco under Roberto Amaral and Yolanda Arroyo in Los Angeles. She is now married to Oscar winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley.
